Scientific & technical methodology and work plan
The work plan structure implements a full top-down approach of the pan-European transmission network planning at EU level, in order to provide the modular development of architectures that meet scenario constraints and are in line with European energy policies.
This work plan coordinated by RTE has been divided into a set of nine work packages which are responsible for meeting the project objectives and which interact as described below. This highly interactive work flow involves four types of simulation tools for the modular development plan:
- A generation dispatch/market simulation tool to generate hourly generation and demand profiles at a regional level.
- A DC load flow tool to simulate hourly transmission levels at a regional level.
- A cost-benefit analysis tool to rank different grid solutions according to socio-economic criteria.
- An AC load flow tool to perform detailed simulations in order to assess the operational feasibility of local grid solutions.
